| A Few suggestions |
| James | Hi Martin,
I think there is a slight error with the forums.

As you can see - an area of this screen is in Black - I don't use Internet Explorer - so I'm not sure if it's meant to be like that or not, but i'm guessing it's not - it makes it very hard to read/post threads or login - I may be the only person using a non-IE browser, but if other people get this it could put them off using the site.
Also - I had an idea for a section of the site. I'm an avid blogger. A blog is somewhere that people jot down many different notes, from their personal lives to technical information about a product. Maybe instead of the Leyland people section, or as an add on - you could give the tools needed for people to be able to set up a "blog" account - I'm not sure what kind of server you have, but I know that there is a PHP solution that would let this be done out there - if your hosting doesn't support this, I'd be happy to host it for free on my server if you would like to do this.
Lasly, I work in web development, so if you require any help - please feel free to get in contact.
Thanks
James

| William R | Martin, I am starting this posting by saying, to protect the Forum, THAT IT IS MY OPINION THAT,..... some things can only be said which reflect my views. What on earth has happened to the Forum, when a posting which basically says that a spade is a spade, launches into a tirade of multiple words and phrases which use twenty words to say something where one word will do just as well, making it difficult to understand. Indeed I do not have the patience to sift through the dross, to arrive at what the originator is attempting to say, perhaps, in my opinion, unsuccessfully. Do I need a lecture on world politics at my time of life? There is a saying in Yorkshire which is possibly pertinent " My God, but he likes to hear the sound of his own voice" or possibly a more universal one which states that " an empty can makes a lot of noise". I was once a master of the "flowery phrase" in preparation of reports for my Company, and was taken to task, and told to produce a Summary, in the Introduction, as the Executive did not have the time to sift through my work to find what I intended to say. In other words, use as few words as possible to make your point, it will make a much better impact when read. I learned my lesson in a hard school, and remember it well. Some posters on the Forum would do well to reflect on what they write, and ask, "Did I really mean to write all that to put my point?" This can only be my opinion, Martin, but I am not afraid to express it. From over the Pennines, William R. |
| Martin | Hi James
Thanks for pointing out the colour problem. I suspect it is one of those "browser safe" colour issues. Maybe your browser has decided which colour is best to display for that section. I will change it to a standard colour and you can tell me how it looks.
As for Blogging, there is a blog mod available for the forum. I will do a bit of research and get back to you.
Thank you for the offer of help. I may need some assistance at some point in the near future. It depends how demanding our members are[;)] |
| Spitfire | Hi Martin, A slight problem has occured and I am certain I havn`t altered any settings at this end.
The forun page is too large for the screen and I am having to scroll left to right in order to read everything. |
| Spitfire | Just a quick follow-up. Every other topic is fine. It`s just this one that`s affected. |

That's an easy one. This page is wide because it has a large picture in it.
All the other pages should be normal size. |
| Martin | James
I have changed one of the colours as suggested by my HTML editor. Try looking at reply to topic (see picture above) and let me know if you can view it as it should be (a bright bluey colour) |

I don't use IE, but I don't get a black screen - mine has always appeared in a lovely shade of blue! [:)] |
| noel | No problems here. I use IE and the screen looks blue. |
| Hayleypink | Linda what do you use? If its your AOL screen - that is IE just a version that AOL use. |
| William R | We use Internet Explorer and don`t have any problem with the Forum pages, so leave it "as is". Regards, Lady G.

| James | Martin - thanks - that works a lot better now (I can actually see what i'm doing!) |

I never knew that! Funny, that, because when I do use IE (rarely) the screen looks nothing like what I get with AOL...... |
| William R | Hi Martin.
How is it that Lady G can control my computer?
Please explain this phenomenon.

She isn't controlling your computer Bill, although that is possible these days. Looks like she is putting words into you postings though [;)] |
| Lady Griffin | Hi Martin,
Just what is going on here?
LG
|
| noel | Either Bill is signing himself off as LG or Linda has got Bill's ID and password. ORRRR Summat fishy's gooin' on. |
| Hayleypink | ummm i smell fish |
| Lady Griffin | Computers are very sophisticated, electronic marvels, Hayley.Nothing is impossible.Miracles take a little longer though.
LG
|
| Hayleypink | so you and william are the same person then?? |
| noel | I've heard of this sort of thing before Hayley, didn't Alfred Hitchcock make a film about it? There was a bit of action in the shower I seem to remember. Come to think of it I never saw Bill and Linda together at the same time when I met them in Leyland. Bill would say " I'm just going to get some drinks, " disappear then Linda would suddenly appear. Thought it a bit odd!!! |
| LDunlop76 | There's some leg-pulling going on here. However my lips are sealed ;-) |
| Lady Griffin | Sorry all-it's been fun

| William R | Hello Martin, Methinks I have upset the natives on the Forum by introducing a smattering of hilarity into a sombre set of threads. I must repent my sins and stick to the subject under discussion in future, You know that my intention was to keep the Forum alive and kicking, and I have had e-mails from various Posters who feel that I have at least given them a smile, in their worried worlds, and have enjoyed it. I now cast aside my joviality, and will in future stick to my subjects. From over the Pennines, Regards, William R. |
| Hayleypink | i was just confused... |

Awww, don't stop being jovial, Bill! |
| Caroline | No, don't, we can all use a laff! |
| Martin | Post about whatever you feel like Bill. I'm sure your leg will be pulled on a regular basis by some of the more Mischievous members...[;)] |
| noel | Bill if we can't have a laugh life isn't worth living. And gawd knows you need to have a sense of humour living in Barnsley. 8-) 8-)) |
| Martin | I was thinking just that Noel. I have been to Barnsley a couple of times but have only seen it in the dark. |
| Hayleypink | next time take your sunglasses off |
| rocketmanjohn | Here, Here, Bill.
John |
| Spitfire | Bill, Have to broadly agree with what you said. However, was it really necessary to use 289 words to get your point across? |
| Martin | I'm sure there is a good point somewhere in your posting Bill! When I get home and spend a few minutes reading the forum, I'll try and get my head around it. I'm still in holiday mood at the moment.
Which topic are you refering too? |
| William R | Hi, Martin, Whilst I`m hibernating I have had one of my "in my opinion" thoughts. Would it be possible for the Forum to carry a Section reserved for arguments only? A kind of "enter at your peril" place, wherein the participants can be belligerant and aggressive in their own way, on any of their favourite subjects. I believe it is sometimes known as serious debate. Lesser mortals would then be able to carry on with their light-hearted banter as the Forum used to be, knowing that there is a kind of monitoring service which diverts subjects of contention into the Arguments Only Section, and leaves the rest of the Forum members to do their own thing. It would be nice, in my opinion, to be able to sit on the outside, looking in, and watch those wanting arguments pick spots off their opponents. They may be worth a laugh whilst they gather enough rope to "hang" themselves at their own expense.. Only my opinion, Martin, to protect the innocents. Back into hibernation, Cheerio, William R. |
| noel | That's a good idea William R. Maybe we could call it "The Dustbin". |
| William R | Noel, We could call it that, but not Re-cycle Bin, maybe Deleted Items. Lady G is now back in New Zealand, so watch out for her sending a few comments. I hope she didn`t pick up any bad habits whilst she was in Barnsley. Whatever you do don`t mention Ladies Hairdressers to her, I`m still in the "dog-house" on that subject. More later, take care, William R. |
| noel | She's had some fine weather whilst she's been here William. I look forward to her posting about Ladies Hairdressers.<bg> And now of course she can enjoy New Zealand's summer. Some folk get all the luck.
Winter seems to have started here, turned very cold a few hours ago.
BRRRRRRR. |
| Lady Griffin | Hi all,
Am now back in NZ and needing a hair cut- NOT at Barnsley prices.I shall go to the Shearing Shed.
Beautiful day though a bit crisp and it was lovely to see the remains of my daffodils plus the usual array of creepy crawly things around the house.I'm sure they know I'm not around and tell their mates to come for a party.
I will return though.Watch this space.
Had to alter all the various clocks and try to remember how to set the video and even the computer coughed a few times.
Cheers
LG

That sounds like a good idea Bill, I could set up an adult debating forum with a warning over the door. I've had one or two ideas recently which I might enlighten you with shortly. |
| noel | Welcome back Linda. |
| LDunlop76 | Glad to hear you landed home safely, Linda. Hopefully it won't be long until you grace these shores with your presence again.
An adult debating forum.... sounds good..... could call it the Argy-Bargy Room! <g> |
| Martin | Welcome Back Lady G |
| rocketmanjohn | Sounds like a good idea William R, would you suggest a 5 minute argument or the full half hour?
How would you prevent belligerent replies in the non-argument sections?
Welcome back, by the way.
John |
| William R | John, I have put my views to Martin by e-mail, and leaving it to him. After all he is running the Forum and has the last word. Cheerio, William R. |
| Lady Griffin | Thanks all for welcome messages-am now losing the ringing in my ears and getting back to normal-whatever that is-some things remain the same.I woke this morning to hear planes buzzing over Waitakere still spraying the painted apple moths-they have been doing that for well over a year. The little critters must still be out there.
Cheers

| Caroline | Welcome home Linda. I met a nice couple from NZ , with three children-they were trying to get through to the local B&B, but no sucess, so ended up staying in Big Al's parents cottage next door for the night . They were living in Cornwall at present ( he's a GP, on exchange I think)- but they live in the same area as you and knew your road!! I was really pleased! |
| Lady Griffin | Many thanks Caroline-I was sorry to have missed your visit to the Eagle-maybe next time.[:)]
It is indeed a small world-my Rd is much busier since I got back -the cherry trees were flowering all along the paths- but I did enjoy the autumn colours around in UK before I left-the seasons here are not so distinct.I still found one pot of daffodils just beginning to open up and the month for Spring bulbs is usually July and August.
Cheers
