Armed robbery
Martin"POLICE have issued descriptions of the armed robbers who held up a bank in Leyland, stealing thousands of pounds. The two men went into the Lloyds TSB bank on Chapel Brow, carrying firearms at around 12.30pm. At least one of the guns was fired, and a security screen was damaged, but nobody was hurt. They are believed to have stolen several thousand pounds." http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/lancashire/leyland/news/LEYNEWS0.html
Hayleypinkwell at least no one was hurt. and i thought nothing ever happended in Leyland!
DavidIt's sad that even in a little town like Leyland, that in this day and age, violence has escalated to the use of firearms. [:(]
BenApparently the robbers made their escape up Hastings Road up toward the 'ginnel' at the end of Northgate. The bank was shut today - I agree it's a real shock to see this in our town.
LDunlop76I heard news of the robbery on the NW TV news. Nowhere is safe these days. :-(
noelI wondered why police with rifles were walking up Golden Hill Lane at lunch time. Kind of scarey when you have a bag of fish and chips on your passenger's seat.
DavidDon't worry about it. There's about five a DAY in L.A. I don't think they even mention them in the paper, unless someone is killed. [8D][8D][8D]

Yeah, cos a woman was done not so long ago for 'driving without due care and attention' because a copper saw her take a swig from a bottle of mineral water while she was stopped at a red light! [:0] Fish & chips, Noel? You're going darn for that one, sonny![:p]
William RMany, many years ago I was walking up Fishergate past the Bank, I don`t know which one, about 10am. Two bank employees were emptying a supply of money onto a cart from the back of a car. Money in cloth bags all over the footpath, and everybody having to walk round or step over it, it was pre-decimal days. You wouldn`t do it now!!! Cheers, Bill.

I think we can take her side of the story with a pinch of salt. I did see a young lady on tv a few years ago complaining about this and she even demonstrated how to drink from a bottle for the cameras. Of course the car was parked in a driveway at the time.
noelLet's just face it Martin, women should not drive cars.
noelOo eck I hope no females notice that comment. Umm I think I got away with it.
LDunlop76No, you bl**dy didn't! LD<~~ driving up to Leyland to thwap Noel

Possibly (though it was reported on Radio 4 [;)]) However, I do know from a very reliable source that the traffic police can sometimes be over-zealous in their activites. A friend of ours was pulled over for allegedly speeding on a stretch of Scotland Road in Liverpool which has traffic lights at frequent intervals. It was rush hour and he'd moved off from one red light, straight to the next red light, tons of traffic about, so no opportunity to even get to 30, but the traffic cop said he'd been doing 31 and was going to book him. I say was because Alan pointed out that under the prevailing traffic conditions he hadn't been travelling at 31 mph, that even if he had, the policeman was supposed to allow a little leeway for instrument error and then he played his master stroke and produced his business card - proving to the copper that he was trying to book a solicitor - not a wise move if your evidence isn't up to it! [}:)] One red-faced constable burst into embarrassed coughing fits and graciously admitted maybe his radar wasn't quite right.
CarolineJust read that comment, Noel, there goes the pint I was going to buy you if I ever get to a meet!
BenThe robbery at the Chapel Brow TSB bank will be reconstructed on BBC's 'Crimewatch' programme next week apparently - Leyland on the telly for the wrong reasons!
Kath smithNever mind attacking women drivers. I got done for speeding on the bypass out of Preston by a pleasant young man with a radar gun!!! he pointed out politely the speed limit isnt 40mph as I thought but 30 on the stretch I was on, and it cost me £60 and 3 points on my license to gain that bit of local knowledge. I have learned my lesson now, in future I will tell the sad **++!!"" what to do with his radar gun and to go and find some real criminals for a change, like bank robbers in leyland.
LDunlop76Kath, my dad always says they put the speed traps where the road tempts you to go faster than the speed limit, never in places where only a maniac (the type who should be off the road) would be speeding. That said, I have to acknowledge that the police are doing their best to get the maximum possible charge pinned on the stupid young woman who thought it OK to drive round a bend at 40 - 50 miles an hour in a 30 zone, after dark, in the wet, whilst on a mobile phone and twice over the legal alcohol limit. Her stupidity cost my brother his life.......
noelI believe the sentence for causing death by dangerous driving is going up to 12 years Linda. Small comfort I know.

Thanks for that, Noel. We've been researching on the net and the average sentences being meeted out for causing death whilst driving over the legal limit of alcohol seem to be about 18 months. The police reckon she'll get at least 6 months. The period inside doesn't really bother me, Noel, so long as she does get jail. What concerns us is if she gets off with a fine and loss of licence..... which isn't unheard of. At least if she gets jail, she'll lose her job and have more trouble getting another one when she gets out - then her stupidity will have ruined her own life as well as ours. [V]
ThornleyNoel, I have been driving for 15 years now. I have been hit twice, both times whilst stationary, both male drivers. 1 in a car, who said he thought the traffic lights were on green!!!!!!! and the other by a not so sobber man on a push bike. Who after breaking one of my front lights, did a forward roll over his handle bars and then picked up his bike and ran!!!!! Women would NEVER do that[xx(][xx(][xx(]
dedwardsaProblem is the cops are going for easy targets. They're very happy to sit in their comfy Ford Galaxy at the bottom of Turpin Green Lane on a morning, watching traffic crawl into town (since they've started doing that regularly the launderette has started selling bacon butties...) but if they could be bothered to work evenings by the Jarvis, they could have magnificent pictures of double overtaking of parked cars (so three abreast) in the face of oncoming traffic. Their bosses are more interested in cash collection than crime prevention.
dedwardsaor detection even
William RLinda, I think I may have said this to you already. She has a lifetime of remembering in front of her, and no, it will not go away with the passing of time. I think that to the day she dies, she will remember, and regret. Sadly, Bill.

Well, we would in her shoes, Bill, but so far she has failed to express the least remorse. She is coming across at present as one hard-faced madam. I'd just like to hear her say she's sorry.
