| Martin | I would like suggestions for a new set of rankings for members.
The current list is
- New Member
- Just Starting
- Forum Learner
- Forum Regular
- Forum Junkie
- Seriously Addicted
If you can think of renaming the above the list, please post your suggestions here.. however silly they may be [:D] |
| William R | Martin, We talked about this on Dec.31st. Being a prude (!!!) I don`t much like the terms "junkie/addicted" as a bit PC, or not so. Thinking of our inactive members, who wish to stand at the back and see what is going on - they will possibly be moved to contribute when some subject comes along in which they have an interest. I therefore suggest, (1) New Member. (2) Observer. (3) Learner. and (4) Regular. I did think to put "Forum" before each, but thats where they are anyway. I know it sounds very formal, but hey! its only a suggestion, which may move mountains in the Forum membership. See what the others think, and pick the most suitable for your intentions for the Forum. From over the Pennines, Regards, William R. |
| Lady Griffin | Don't really mind what anyone calls me but if a change will help to encourage new contrbutors go for it.Would it help to have no rankings?
Maybe some newer contributors could tell us what they think. |
| LDunlop76 | Party? Did someone mention a party? Count me in!! |
| William R | Martin, I`ve come onto this thread because I see you seem to be getting a bit of stick about Registration and the way the Forum runs. First, you are doing a good job running the Forum. When my wife died recently and I was "in the depths", I dropped on the Forum and discovered a "lifeline" to help me through the dark days, for which I will be forever grateful. Second, in my opinion, the process of Registration should be tightened up, people should be asked not to hide behind the mask of anonimity, but to say who they are and if possible what they expect from the Forum. Third, they have the opportunity to "power down" if they are not satisfied with the manner in which the Forum is being conducted. Finally. there is a forum they may care to contribute to on the web, which accepts comments about places, if they can stand to read the inuendo and suggestive comments therein. If they search, they will find it.. Keep up the good work, Martin, and in my opinion I still think we should be making some sort of financial contribution to its upkeep. I wonder if people realise that it comes free to them? Cheerio, William R. aka Bill. |
| Martin | Many thanks for your comments Bill
I think the forum has been working just fine for quite a while now, although there's always room for improvement or enhancement.
I am a great believer in free speech, but feel that you have to draw the line somewhere. The 9.00pm watershed was introduced to television so that parents would know that viewing after that time might not be suitable for youngsters. It gave them a choice.
Here on the internet we have no watershed, if you want to find x-rated content, or be subject to abuse, there are thousands of web sites where you could have that kind of experience.
This web site is a community area, for people of all ages and as such has some very simple rules. If you post something offensive, then the moderators have the right to remove it.
if somebody here had offensive material removed and then complained about their rights of free speech... Tough! Being offensive is not a right on this forum.
Having said all that, I haven't really had much cause for concern about the postings here in the last year.
That brings me nicely to the fact that this forum will be one year old on April 1st... Shall we have a party?

| Martin | Back on this topic again. I thought of some funny terms for forum posters... how about
Knows nowt
getting the 'ang of it

| William R | Martin, What is the significance of the coloured stars under Forum names. You`ve got red stars, me and Linda have yellow, have we got a heirarchy we know not of? I worked for a Company which had various grades of staff, A-B-C-Managers - Directors. Each grade got a different size of desk, as you progressed your desk got bigger, more drawers, and high grades got a glass top. Different types of Biro from bog standard to elite Parkers. Same with diaries. Worst of all was Calenders - these were received from customers etc. and were meticulously sorted so that lower grade staff got poor quality, whereas managers got very nice ones. The dining arrangements were beyond belief, with "mess officers" and managers delegated as drink stewards. You had a table place with your napkin and ring, you had "arrived" except you had to wait for your table officer to arrive before you could sit down. Table officers took their lead from the Mess President before they allowed you to sit down. Sorry, I`m going on again, but I did ask if there was some significance in the colour of the stars, perhaps I shouldn`t have asked? Anyway, have a laugh about it, Cheerio, Bill. |

Bill
they are just a feature. I could change them around if I wanted to.
Red stars are admin staff, the other colours were chosen at random and follow the members ranks so a newbie would have one colour, and an experienced member would have a different colour. But you don't have to stand on ceremony here Bill, as long as I have the last say [:D] (only kidding). |
| William R | Martin, No problem. The bloke above me wore a suit, I wore a white coat, my men wore green coats, and the blokes who did the work wore blue overalls. Just a matter of knowing who`s who. Cheerio, Bill. |
| Martin | hmmmm, more member titles Bill?
Blue Overalls
Green Coats
White Coats
Suits |

OK,
Fur Coats
Posh frocks
Skirts
Leggins
Jeans... |
| William R | Hi, Come to think of it - there was no "uniform" for the ladies in the offices - quite a fashion parade, except for the ladies using that purple fluid on the duplicators, was it "Ormig" or something like that? They developed quite a purple outlook on life. Cheerio, Bill. |

Martin? Fur coats? There used to be a saying in Leyland about ladies who wore fur coats, DEFINITELY not for forum eyes. Bill.
OK,
Fur Coats
Posh frocks
Skirts
Leggins
Jeans...

| LDunlop76 | Fur coats......hmmm, not at all PC these days..... and leggings are definitely lower down the scale than jeans - ask Hayley! |
| William R | Linda Wiganer, No its not a PC reason, I`ll give you a clue. Think of ladies of d****ful character who **** very good money, then think of items of cl***ing generally worn, but for convenience not. Mix it all together and you have an old time saying which my SM used often when faced with a person wearing a fur coat, real or simulated. Incidentally, I bought Margaret one many years ago, she would never wear it, can you think of a reason?, and she wasn`t a lobbyist. Fill in the blanks for a bit of fun. Cheerio, Bill. (sorry Martin!!!) |
| Spitfire | As a `new member`, I wonder how long to I have to have been in the forum, or how many postings do I have to make in order to move up the ladder, (said with tonge in cheek)? I would have thought that the `number of posts` spoke for itself as to how long a person had been a member. I have been in other forums for years, so having one star doesn`t bother me at all. However, the present system could look quite daunting to newbies and I`m sure nobody wants to frighten new recruits away!
The work that goes into running a forum like this is tremendous I know, so please don`t take this as a moan, just throwing in my `two-penneth` (for what it`s worth). |

I know you get 3 stars after 100 posts and 2 stars, after not a lot, about 20 or 25 I think. I've never really been impressed by the ranking system, I don't see the neccessity for it. And I agree , we need all the new recruits we can get . It's a bit like having prefects at school who can give you a clip round the ear isn't it. |

No need for clues, Bill, I knew exactly what saying you meant concerning no nether garments [;)] but I was also pointing out that we can't have fur coats in the rankings as it's not PC to wear one these days. |
| Caroline | I used to wear fur coats and remember having that shouted at me by building workers. I replied 'How did you guess?' and the reply was even worse . Difficult to outdo them!
Spitfire, I agree the ranking system's a bit daunting, and, excuse me, but 'advanced member' sounds a bit risquè when applied to the male participants, but that's probably just me! |

Oo-er, Matron!
D'you know, I hadn't even noticed that heavy posters (another risque sounding phrase?)were called advanced members! LOL!
Don't worry, Spitfire, you'll soon be awarded an extra star. However, I've just noticed Noel has gone up to 4 stars - I'd need to come on here twice a day to catch up! But it's not about who's got the most stars, it's about joining in the discussions and having a bit of fun! |
| Martin | I can always replace the ranking with a nickname.... |
| noel | How about macho man for 4 stars??? |
| LDunlop76 | You don't give up, do you, Noel? <g> |
| Caroline | You could have four gold stars welded together to make a really smart medallion, with chain....... |
| Spitfire | Caroline - Medallion Man sounds a bit, `Saturday Night Fever`, don`t you think? ROFL. |
| Spitfire | I know that I don`t look my age, but------------junior member? |
| Hayleypink | lol spitfire!!!!
well i think we should all be pinkys like on my forum!!! |
| LDunlop76 | I just think it's rather lucky that the star system doesn't judge the quality of our posts (like hotels). It would be very hard to be a four star member on that count! <g> |
