September Meet?
CarolineI'll be over in England and uptnorth mid September....howsabout if I go in the Eagle on Saturday 13th lunchtime?? Will anyone come and see me? This day could be changed to Sunday or early the next week. I feel excited already! Caroline . www.artistsmock.com
LDunlop76I can probably manage Saturday or Sunday, though Sunday might be preferable - daughter's birthday is that week, so Saturday is the most likely day for celebrating her becoming a teenager!
MartinI'll make a note of the date. Anything could happen between now and then, but it would be nice to see some of the forum folk again.
MartinOops... before Hayley chastises me. We are away in Devon from the 6th Sept...
HayleypinkMartin how could you forget our romantic week away???[V] Hiya Caroline, sorry we'll be away that week, we'll probably get up north to see Martins family at Christmas time :-)[:D]
CarolineSaturday or Sunday, anyone else?
noelI think either is OK by me. But are North End at home ???8-)
ThornleyHi all, unfortunatley once again I will not be able to attend. We are away in Spain and don't return until Sunday evening. Hope you all have a good time. Vanessa
MartinI hope somebody takes video footage of this meeting! We can have a webcast on the forum of what everyone got upto.
Bill RigbyIs this 'meeting' still on for September 13? Is it the Eagle and Child by the old Parish church? Since we will be in Lancashire from September 20 through 24, looks like I shall miss it. My last visit to Leyland was in June 1994 when I was getting ready for a cycle tour from my sister's place in Whalley. I bought fish and chips for lunch from a place in Towngate and ate them in the war memorial on a bench there. I noted how the Cross area has been despoiled in favor of a snotty looking commercial center! Just realized I also made a visit to Ryden Avenue in 1999 to show my grandchildren where I spent my childhood, but although the house still exists, the entire area is unrecognizable.
JohnHI shall be up in Leyland in about a weeks time - I've not been back for about 3 years! hope I still recognise the old town?
MartinI have just had some photos developed of the town centre. If I have time, I'll scan some for the forum.
William RSorry we won't make it -maybe next time -will be away in Scarborough and Heartbeat country that weekend.Enjoy the meeting. Linda and Bill

We went to Scarborough a number of years ago and got to visit Heartbeat country. It was interesting to see the town (Goathland) and all the sites from the series. They were filming in the pub at the time and a number of the old cars were in the pub carpark, police cars, Greengrass' old red truck. Further down the road an old cottage was covered in fake snow, even a fake snowman - in summer. We also rode the steam train from, I think Pickering - chuf chuf! Worth a visit (provided you're a Heartbeat fan).
Hayleypinkohh yeh take a video so me and martin can see the meet!!
noelI,ve got a digital video camera, I could take a video ( without me in it of course!!)

LDunlop76Thank you, Linda Mk 11!
CarolineWell, it looks like the Sunday, 14th., doesn't it? Is that OK???????I only hope Preston win or Noel could look a bit glum and spoil the photos! Linda D.- hope you had a lovely time on holiday... Pity some of you can't make it, but I'm sure everyone will meet at some stage, in one formation or another....

Should be OK with me. Are we talking lunchtime in the Eagle and Child?
SpitfireI would have loved to attend, but didn`t feel like sitting on my own, seeing that I`m only a two star poster. Hope that those of you who go , have a really good time.

I hope you're not thinking that because you've not typed as many words as others on here, you would be treated any differently from anyone else at a meeting? Because that simply would not happen. If you're anywhere in the area on the day, do please come along!
noelYes that's a poor excuse spitfire. Everyone's welcome.!!!!
Lady GriffinAbsolutely right.Make sure that Noel has nowhere to hide! LG

Thanks Linda. You see Spitfire what I have to put up with???[:)]
CarolineIt's Sunday 14th, then... Spitfire, I haven't met any of the others before so you can sit with me! Will be bringing along my partner, Big Al, who isn't even a forum member- so, no excuses!!!
Lady GriffinLook forward to hearing about your meeting.Have fun. LG
skitzyHave a great time, I'm looking forward to seeing any photo's that you take, if Martin can put them on the forum. Eileen
SpitfireCaroline, Did you say partner? `Big Al` sounds like your minder! LOL. Any particular time set for the meet?
William RI believe I have apologised for not being able to get to the next meet at the Eagle, but we are away again at Chester this time, just for the weekend. I`m going to spend a bit of time going through past postings to see whats been going on. Lady G has gone visiting relatives which gives me access to my computer for a day or so, so I may get my 500 soon. O.K. Congratulations on reaching your 600 L.G. Expect more from me shortly, Cheerio from William R.

I assumed we were meeting at lunchtime. Anyone have any preferred time or do we start rolling up around noon until everyone's there? We could do with a system to recognise one another too - no use suggesting sitting at a specific table in case someone else has already bagged in when we arrive. Any suggestions?
MartinHow about wearing a big sticker with your screen name on it?
CarolineWe'll be wearing stripy T-shirts and carrying onions! Yes, Noon. Do not forsake me, my darlings! What time do pubs open, anyhow? Is there still a big round table to the left, or did I hear the Eagle had been 'done up'? Hows about wearing badges made from the logo, a bit complicated perhaps, but could be a good idea ?? I may have a go at printing it out, sticking it on card with a pin thru.... (I feel a bit embarassed to have me name emblazoned across me chest!)
LDunlop76Eeeek! Now I have to make a badge! Wouldn't be easier to just carry a specific Sunday paper? Naw! Wouldn't be as much fun..... but I'd like to be a fly on the wall when Noel comes back off his hols and finds he's got to do the ole Blue Peter and make a badge! LOL!
CarolineToo right, Linda! Haven't got mine done yet and not likely to. What did you do last time?? How many will we be? Isn't it more exciting just to 'find' each other? I'm the little lady with the big fella!
noelI'm the big fella with no lady, (just my wife.) So you can identify me I will be carrying a copy of The Day Today, and excess weight. The table on the immediate left by the window is the Forum's property. ( squatters rights)
MartinI wish I could be there to try and see you all... It looks like we will just have to watch the live web cast from the hidden camera I asked the landlord to set up in the Eagle.

Too right, Noel! Any non-forum member daring to park their bum there will be on the receiving end of some serious Paddington stares! I will be the little lady(?) with the haggard face - I don't think I have the guts to wear a forum badge... esp not if I'm the only one doing it! What time are we meeting? Noon? I'm looking forward to it!
noelNoon's fine to me. Be sooooon at nooon I say.
MartinI hope it goes well. The Eagle is a nice pub to have a meet in. They even let forum members in.
CarolineSee you all termorrer! I look forward to that.
noelI'm aftraid family pressures may prevent me from coming Caroline. My wife goes into hospital for an operation next week, and with the good weather we're having wants me to take her up to the lakes for a day out. I forget when I say I'll come I have a large family who say what I'll do. We have to be back for 5 because my middle son and his girl are coming for tea so we'll have to leave early morning. I'm looking after my 16 month old grandson at the moment, he's driving me potty. He's tipped the dog's water bowl all over the kitchen and laminate floor twice!!! the second time he went flying on his backside and banged his head on the floor, wetting his clean pyjamas I'd just put on him. My wife's out at a wedding reception in Blackpool. I want to scream and scream and scream!!!
MartinI thought you'd retired Noel? Seems like the hard work isn't over yet!

Awww, Noel - hope the domestic situation has calmed down now. I didn't read your posting till just now, so didn't know you weren't going to be at the meet. You missed a good time and we even managed to bag the "forum table" before anyone else got to it! We were a select bunch in the Eagle : Caroline, Big Al, Spitfire and me. We had a nice chatter - it was smashing to put a few more faces to screen names too. Jim (Spitfire) was the only one with a posh digital camera, so his pics will be the first available. Mine won't be developed till I finish the film - don't hold your breath for them! <g> The only question now is when is the next forum meet? [:D]
MartinI should put up a forum photos page. It will probably be in the Leyland People section as no one has come forward yet...

Retiring from work is one thing Martin. However retiring from a family is something I can't do. So sorry I couldn't make it but I had a great day out in the sun today at Ravenglass, had a ride on the ratti, fell in love with my grand-daughter, she is so beautiful even at 6 months old. She smiled and smiled. Life doesn't get better than this.
noelBy the way I never did tell you the sequel of my wife's operation. We attended hospital at 8am. She had her pre-op and lines marked wher ethey would cut her feet, but they couldn't get her blood pressure under control, so at 4pm she was sent home heart broken.
LDunlop76Awww, Noel. I bet the pair of you feel like banging your heads against the wall! But better safe than sorry - a general anaesthetic with a high BP is not to be undertaken lightly. Hope you get another date through ASAP.
noelThanks Linda. Mag's always had low blood pressure whenever monitored. Better safe than sorry.

Awww, you big softy you, Noel! [:X]
SpitfireI just wanted to say what a pleasure it was to meet up with Caroline and Wiganer on Sunday (not forgetting `Big Al` of course). What nice people. The only pity was was that so few managed to make it. However, I suppose it was just as well as there was a limit to the number of bottles and packets of biscuits ( prezzies) that the little French car could carry [:D] LOL
LDunlop76It was lovely to meet you too, Jim! I hope it was the first of many meetings.
CarolineHello! Back home again. It was good to see Linda and Jim, and let's have more of you next time ! We were highly amused when Big Al reported he'd asked the landlady of the Eagle where the Gents were, and she replied " Just aim for the back door" !!!! There were cider and biscuits to spare.. Noel, is Margaret having her bunions done?

She failed her blood pressure, Caroline, we were in hospital at 8am they sent her home at 3-300pm heart broken. Following it was perfectly normal at our doctors ( as usual) so she's having a 24hr. monitor put on now. It's toes straightening and bunnions on both feet. Sooner her than me. Sorry once again I didn't make it Caroline, I just wanted to give Margaret a good day out in the Lakes before her operation .
SpitfireCaroline, It was great meeting up with you and Al (afraid the cider didn`t last very long - when are you coming again? ROFL). Martin hasn`t been able to publish the photos I took, however I`ve let Linda have her`s and if you would like any of them just let me know where to e them.
Hayleypinkwe should arrange a date sometime in the future so that more of us can make it... Diaries at the ready.. I will probably be in town over christmas.
CarolineWhy are our photos unprintable?!! Gentleman Jim, I'll send you my email. Be over again in mid-November, more of a flying visit as we have Christmas windows to paint in Ottery St.Mary after The North ( see www.artistsmock.com ). Big Al had the honour of painting the window of a new knicker shop in Skipton when we were over ( in the Arcade should anyone be remotely interested when visiting said town.....).
SpitfireMartin, We were very disapointed (to say the least) that the photos we took of the September meet were never published. Could it be be that those who took the trouble to attend were not important enough? I remember you saying that Noel would be star of the show (can`t understand that statement, as the whole reason was Carolines visit to England. No offence to you Noel, you didn`t say it. however an explanation would be greatly appreciated.
MartinJoking aside, I have been very busy both on and offline. I will knock up a quick photos page just to keep the natives happy, although I wanted to devote more time to a proper peoples section...
MartinAnother early night disappears over the horizon... http://www.leylandtown.info/sept2003.htm The menu at the top of the page doesn't seem to want to change...
skitzyGreat photo's & the Eagle & Child looks like a nice place, its years since i went in there. But can somebody advice who is who on the photo's please. Eileen
SpitfireThanks Martin. Will promise to leave you alone to get on with things. Joking apart, it would be really nice if the next meet had A BIG GROUP to photograph.
MartinI think everyone from the forum should send in a head shot of themselves so that I can make a gallery...
noelThe back of my head is my good side Martin. Is that OK?
