| Martin | I've been thinking AGAIN!
When we choose a suitable name for the web site, we could do with some new logos for the forum and for the other pages. A matching theme for the whole web site.
I could probably knock something together but I'm sure there are far more talented people out there who could do a lot better.
Once the name is sorted out, I will list the titles that I think we need for each section of the web site. |
| Hayleypink | ohhh now your showing off |
| William R | Martin, Logo-wise. Could you not use the old Leyland Motors Logo, or is this Patent protected, Its known worldwide, I was often asked if Leyland was named after Leyland Motors because it was so famous, not the other way round. Its just a thought from over the Pennines, Cheerio, Bill. |
| Martin | I could look into that Bill. If there is a similar recognised font that we could use, that would be ok. Good thinking though |
| Caroline | I'm willing to have a go at a logo, have already done one for a nearby village . What about an image that's composed of various elements particular to Leyland? For the one I mentioned, I included the church, the railway line ( now a tourist attraction with bikes on the rails!), a standing stone, and flowers for the country walks round there . Suggestions, please, I won't necessarily be able to include everything, sometimes things don't link together visually.. my very first thoughts are of the parish church, Worden park, the cross, Leyland motors truck or bus, Morrismen .......these could be represented in shorthand, if need be , eg clog and baton for Morrismen,a Leyland Motors badge ( I happen to have one!) etc. |
| LDunlop76 | That sounds really good, Caroline. |
| Martin | That's great Caroline. This web site should reflect the people who us it... (that took me a long time type in. Sally is having a get together here and the home made wine is making my bro0wsing dificult) |
| Hayleypink | sounds like you were drunk...martin! |
| Martin | Me, drunk? I haven't been drunk in a long time. I might have been slightly merry though. was a good party. |
| Karen | I vote that Caroline does a Leyland Motors Badge thingy ...
With some minor changes if there is a patent, maybe the Cross .. but NO CLOGS!! ...... and that the name stays the same .... what's wrong with the name eh?!
Ciao Karen. |
| Martin | Leyland Forum is fine for the forum, but I was thinking of a proper name for the whole site. One that would distinguish this web site from all the others. |
| Karen | Oh ... OK I get it now!
Ciao Karen. |
| Hayleypink | phew! |
| Caroline | I think it's OK if I DRAW the badge as an old badge. Or, I could do a large Leyland 'L' which would enclose the rest of the images like a semi-frame . I'll have a mess around, but I do need some suggestions as to subjects to include which reflect the 'true spirit of Leyland '! |
| Karen | Hi Caroline,
Here are a few old things for your suggestions list.
The Cross.
Worden Park Gates.
Leyland Motor's Clock.
A Leyland Tiger Face.
A Bus.
A Truck.
The Leyland Eight.
I can't think of a way to include "Leyland She's a Lady" .....
now THAT dates me!!!!
Ciao Karen.

I would say... Leyland Cross, Leyland badge and Worden Park (or trees and flowers), perhaps some old looking building?
|
| Karen | "Leyland She's a Lady" was the poster girl for Leyland Motors ... each year a new lady truly beautiful and ladylike.

Wasn¬t it also the Leyland Calender? Bill, |
| Karen | Yep Bill ..... you're right.
Calender girl.
Ciao Karen. |
| Caroline | What's the Leyland 8?
Cross, park, badge & building sound OK . Parish Church?
Old Grammar school? What about the old archway over the stream on the park, or is that a bit obscure? Are we giving the Morrismen the boot, or the clog??!!
|
| Martin | The Leyland 8 sounds like a car or an engine. Clogs are fine, morris men are fine in moderation[;)] and I like the idea of the archway... But I'll leave it to you to decide Caroline. |
| William R | Caroline, The Leyland 8 was a racing car built in the 1920`s and raced by an engineer called Parry Thomas. He did a lot of timed runs on Pendine Sands on the Welsh Coast. Sadly, on one trial run, the chain drive to the rear wheels broke and killed him. The car was called Babs, and after his death it was buried on Pendine Sands. A replica was produced by Leyland Apprentices in time for the 1972 Preston Guild and featured in the Procession. Eventually, the original Babs was dis-interred from Pendine Sands and partially rebuilt. I`ve lost track of it since, but I believe it may now be housed in a Museum. Parry Thomas`s race engineer was Jack Fairclough who was the foreman in the Chassis Shop at North Works. My father one time worked on making parts for the original car in the Experimental Dept. on the top floor of the Thurstan Road Canteen, and knew Parry Thomas. Sorry that took so long. Regarding the logo suggestions - when the Secomdary Modern School was opened in Yewlands Ave. there was much debate about what the school Badge should be. To the best of my knowledge, Leyland Cross was featured on a shield, and the dominant colour was brown. Other than that, I can`t help. Still thinking over the Pennines, Cheerio, Bill. |
| Martin | I managed to find this picture on the net

| William R | Martin, I have a side view of the car taken in the 1972 Preston Guild procession. Its a 35mm slide, which I will send to you for reproduction, if you`ll tell me where to send it. You have my address I think. Bill. |

If you can get it scanned Bill, you could email it to me. If not, you can send it to me and I'll have a go myself [8D] |
| William R | Martin, I`ve emailed it. The address book put it to Martin Rice, did it get it wrong? If it did I`ll do it again. Bill. |
| William R | Martin, Is our clock one hour fast. I`m posting before I`ve typed them. Ha-ha. Cheerio, Bill. |
| Martin | Thanks for reminding me Bill, I've adjusted the time settings... |
| Martin | oops, I set the clock the wrong way... it's not 2.50am |
| Caroline | All images will help, wot a good picture! I'm starting to gather a few together of the various subjects and will give a shout if anything's missing. |
| Caroline | Thank you also, Bill for the very interesting info on Leyland 8. |
| William R | Martin, Did you get my piccy of the Leyland Straight Eight I tried to send, or has it done a "beam me up Scottie" type of thing, and is floating round the ether for ever? Like I said, I can send the slide if you can say where to. I have Peter`s address, I could send them there? Cheerio from over the hills, Bill. |
| Martin | Bill, yes thanks. I got the picture ok. You've just reminded me that I need to put it on the forum...

Here it is. I enhanced the colours slightly and resized it. Thank you Bill. |
| Martin | oops. I edited my last post, but have only just realised that it won't show up on active topics... |
| William R | Thanks Martin, You did a good job. The name board should read "Leyland Straight Eight" if anybody asks. It was 1972 Preston Guild Procession. Cheerio, Bill. |
