| One way street... |
| Martin | quote: Chapel Brow is set to become one way from Hough Lane roundabout to Golden Hill Lane as part of a strategy to improve traffic flow in the town.
The road was due to be redeveloped some time ago with the introduction of pedestrian crossings, traffic islands and new kerb lines.
But the plans had to be shelved due to the nearby development of the Birmingham and Leyland Rubber Company site on Golden Hill Lane and Wheelton Lane

Hows this going to affect traffic in food alley? It looks like MacDonalds could be sitting in the middle of a huge roundabout[;)] |
| dedwardsa | Well, it'll certainly be safer! OTOH, road safety and quality of life would both be impporved if McDonalds was turned into a huge roundabout :) |
| Martin | There was a plan not too long ago, to run a road from the dual carriageway through the shops on hough lane, around where Johnsons the cleaners used to be and onto the new road near to the motors sports ground. There were also plans to pedestrianise Chapel Brow. |

Ah, I'm not going mad(der) then.. Two things occur to me -
1) the URL in the quoted section of your original post isn't visible until you reply and quote and can see the original html and
2) I missed the bit about plans being shelved because of the L&B development.
I'm not entirely convinced about plans to pedestrianise and one-way everything - I think it will kill what's left of the town centre, personally, but I can't believe that it had to put on hold because of a private development, other than for a few weeks if traffic was a problem.
One of the major problems around Leyland is that road improvements only get carried out if they can be paid for on the back of something else. Have there been any improvements to Golden Hill Lane to cope with the extra traffic that GOK how many extra houses will bring? Has there heck. Same goes for the Matrix Business Park - 4 empty warehouses on the ROF (but scheduled to be lots more and hundreds of houses). The infrastructure improvements total one set of traffic lights. This may sort out traffic congestion within line of sight of the new development, but isn't any comfort for those dealing with the already congested A49, Pack Saddle Bridge, Church Rd, Leyland Way and Lancaster Lane, etc. Quite where Dawson Lane fits in as a major access route is anyone's guess!
If only we had councillors who could sort out the infrastructure properly before they sucked up to the developers!

| William R | Dave, I lived at Bent Bridge from 1930, Packsaddle B ridge was a problem then and remains so 73 years later. Bill. |

If only we had a council that would consider the needs of it's people above their own needs and wants. |
| Lady Griffin | It's the same the whole world over.Another song coming on. |
| Spitfire | Am I the only one who finds the new trafic lights at the end of Dawson Lane a godsend? Crossing Wigan Road into Leyland from Dawson Lane between 5PM and 6PM was an absolute nightmare - until now! |
| dedwardsa | Oh, they're great. Been needed for years, in fact. But they aren't coping with the extra traffic from Buckshaw & Matrix part yet, are they? |
| Spitfire | Only time will tell ,Dave. But I suspect that your pessimistic view will prove to be well founded. Motto will have to be `enjoy it while you can`. |
| dedwardsa | Oh, I do, I do :) |
| Kath smith | Apparanly the A49 through Euxton is to become an access only for lorries when the new road through Buckshaw is built up to Euxton lane from Dawson Lane. Spoil the fun of watching them reverse when they realise they can't get under Pack Saddle bridge though!
Just days after the lights were started up a bus turned towards Euxton and wiped out the railings because they are too close together, I agree its loads better along there now.
But why do people still insist on driving at 25 mph all the way through to Bamber Bridge? |
