Some interesting links
SandiehIve been finding some good links about lancashire, one I`m looking into at the moment is Ancestral Village, for anyone interested in tracing their family tree, this is the link to my page, I`m hoping to find more later. Sandieh. [8D] http://www.angelfire.com/crazy2/benjack/
noelYou should be congratulated on your web site Sandy. I've tried over and over to create my own but half way through I get fed up.I'm a dog lover also, we have two brothers from the same litter. Dylan and Thomas. What a lovely smile you have.
SpitfireHi Sandy, Great site you have there. As genealogy is my hobby, I found Ancestral Village very interesting and have subscribed to it. Leyland looks to be quite threadbare at the moment (the site -that is), but as my maternal relations (ALSTON`s , HINDLE`s etc.) have their roots here, I can soon fill it out a little. Once again, well done on your web page - I`ve always found it a little daunting when I`ve thought of starting one.
skitzyA great site Sandie & i loved the photo's & ancestral village. Id love to have my own site but wouldn't know where to start. Eileen
SandiehHi Eileen and Spitfire, Angelfire has a basic beginers web page that you might try, its good to be able to save links. The Ancestral site looks good I`m going to join to, I have also been trying to trace a family tree without much success, the Census 1901 is a bit of help and the church of latter day saints is another, I`ll try to find the links for them. Sandie.[:)]
SandiehThanks Noel. I love the names of your dogs, I can hardly remember a time when I did`nt have a dog, my two are real softies. I took ages to start a real page, like you I`d get so far and get bored, until I tried editing the page myself, I went to a lot of tutorial sites and copied the codes into my notebook, that made it easier because I could then copy and paste codes into the page. [:)]Sandie
noelWe've always had dogs too Sandie. Our last dog Simon, was so cute. One day he saw a bird feeding in his biscuit bowl. He picked the bird up in his mouth, walked out into the garden , and let the bird go. I'll have to get my thinking head on and try and do something about my home page. Might have to get my wife to do the smile though, she's much better looking.
SandiehThere you go Noel, do the page together..lol [:D]
SpitfireSandie, I have the 1881 census on CD. If you want to give me any names or dates that you are researching I`d be happy to see if any are listed.
SandiehI`m trying to find my great grandfather James England, born about 1846 in Bilton, York, England, my grandfather was Charles born about 1876. Thanks Spitfire.
LDunlop76Nice website, Sandy! I've never bothered myself - wouldn't know what to put on it - but yours is top notch!
SpitfireSandie, Found your GGFather. Living in Guisbrough 1881 census with wife(Maria) and 6 children(Thomas 2nd youngest). If you want to e-mail me I`ll send you the print-out as a MS Word attachment. It was very interesting to see the occupation of James the eldest son. An Iron Miner at thirteen!!!! Wonder what todays youth would make of that.
noelHave you any later years discs Jim? Where do you purchase them from?
SpitfireNoel, I bought my disc set at the Mormon temple at Chorley. They have a great, free of charge, research faciliy there with plenty of micro-fisch readers and computers. I have the full set of 1881 census CD`s and a selection of 1891 for Lancashire.
noelThanks Jim, I may have a look at Preston Temple. I tried to check my Grandfather's parents by visiting the graveyard where I believed they were buried, thinking it was Dent in the Yorkshire Dales ( only one church there so easy to check on. I found out later that he was born 30 miles away, so that was a wasted trip!!! Maybe we should change this bit to a genealogy item?
SpitfireNoel, Could do that. Problem is that it could run away with us! This hobby is 100% adictive.
SandiehHi Spitfire, Hey Thanks ! for finding my great grandfather, I would really like to see the copy, I`ll send you my email address, what you said to Noel about it being addictive is so right, I think we have a Mormon temple in Perth, I`ll see if they have the discs, I thought of my grandfather who was from Abergele Conwy, but had no luck, his name was Pryce Jones and all I know is that he was born on a farm in Abergele, imagine finding a Jones in Wales. Thanks again. Sandie.
Sandiehhttp://www.j31.co.uk/walker_diary.htm This is interesting, I just found it by chance and spent an hour going through it. "The Diary of George Walker 1861"
noelThat should make it a good topic then Spifire. Are you related to John Hindle who lived in East Street many years ago?

Absolutely fascinating stuff. Isn't it incredible theamount of information stored on the net.?
SpitfireSandie, The Walker diaries were were a joy to read. There were far too many interesting things to comment on. However two remain in my mind. I wonder if he felt the same when sending his first telephone call, as I did with my first e-mail? Also I would have liked to see what increase there was in traffic (if any) when the toll-bars were removed. As Noel quite rightly said,` Absolutely facinating`.
