| Catch me if you can |
| LDunlop76 | As the cinema folder's been silent for a while, I thought I'd revive it [;)]
So yesterday.... rainy half term afternoon... daughter had a friend round... so we decided to go to the cinema. At 12 they turn their noses up at Disney, so the only other suitable film on for their age group was "Catch Me If You Can" and I have to say, I rather enjoyed it. At 2 hours 20 minutes, it was a bit long, but the characters carried it along. It's based on a true story and the bare-faced cheek of the lead character was astounding - how he got away with it for so long is amazing! For those who don't know, it's based on the life of Frank Abagnale who spent 3 years between the ages of 16 and 19 cashing 4 million dollars worth of fraudulent cheques while posing as an airline pilot, a doctor and a lawyer [:0] The irony is that, after capture by the FBI and a period in prison, he now earns millions of dollars a year assisting government agencies, banks etc. in solving fraud cases and advising on security systems!
Anyone else seen it[?] |
| noel | I've not seen it Linda but heard of it. It occurs to me that the 72 years' old Bristolian who was recently arrested in South Africa on the recommendation of the FBI might be also recruited as an advisor .
I would think he would have some very good advice for the FBI. Thank the lord the arrest was not in America where they aren't scared to shoot first and ask questions later.
My son and his lady went to watch The Ring last night. Very scarey. She cried all the way home. I have an easier way of crying. I look in the mirror.[:)] ( or in my bank statements)[:D] |

I've seen trailers for "The Ring". I must admit, it's unusual for horror film to actually be very scarey, but if your son's young lady cried all the way home, it must have pushed some emotional buttons. Maybe I'll persuade hubby we need a night out.... |
| William R | Last went to a Cinema in 1961 in Sheffield. When I returned to my brand new Hillman Super Minx, a policeman was stood by it. After exchanging pleasantries he advised me to look at the offside of my car. It had been run into by a Corporation Bus. A police car came and they let me get in, gave me some cord to tie the doors shut, then escorted me to the Garage in Barnsley where I had just got the car from and took me home. When I told the garage that a Sheff Corp bus had run into it, I had a new car within a week, the other only had 200 miles on the clock. Never been to the cinema since, I think it was Half a crown admission then, has it gone up??? I`ll tell you about my new Ford Capri another time, its just as bad. From over the Pennines, Regards, Bill. |
| LDunlop76 | What rotten luck, Bill! No wonder it put you off going to the flicks!
Reminds me of the time we parked outside my grandparents' house while staying there overnight and awoke to a badly crushed front wing, all smeared with red paint. A little detective work brought to light the neighbour across the road's car, brand new reg (it was 2nd August), rear wing all dented with blue paint off our car on it. Hmmm - she might have had the decency to own up! Grandad went over to tackle her and it turned out she had picked up her brand new car the previous day and we were the second car she had run into already! It's people like her give women drivers a bad name! |
| William R | Keeping to subject, in 1960 I bought a Wolseley 1500 at local agent, who rang me to say that the Reg No. 643 added up to 13,did I mind? Never a problem with it. The Super Minx No. was 1326 HE like one thirteen, two thirteens, and as "H" is the 8th letter and "E" is the 5th letter of the alphabet, add together and you get thirteen. Any wonder it got hit by a bus!!! Then I bought a Capri, but I made sure that the No. didn`t add up to thirteen. But, I ordered it in Le Mans Green which I thought was British Racing Green, it was pale apple green. Many remarks about, did it turn brown in the Autumn etc. I weathered. On my way to work in my nice new Capri I turned a corner in Dewsbury when BANG!! the prop shaft fell off. Got the AA to get it back to the Agents, for new prop shaft. It shook like mad, so back to Main Agent. They couldn`t understand it, so car went for testing on assembly jig, found bracket welded on in reverse (Friday afternoon car???) Anyway, new bracket fitted correctly, and I had My car back but what was the burnt smell? They had only left the carpets in when they welded the bracket on, so I got a full set of new carpets and a letter of Apology from Fords at Dagenham. I drove that car for 22000 miles without any further problems. I don`t really worry about No.13, but I`m wary on Friday 13th!!! In my next true tale I`ll tell you about how I lost My brand new M.G.1300 at Abingdon, but thats for another time. From over the Pennines, Cheerio, Bill. |
