| JanetDougan | Hello or maybe I shoud be saying G'day from Queensland Australia
I have been living here for 14 months now,but originally lived
most of my life in Leyand.
I went to St marys school on Royal Avenue and worked at Leyand
Printing for 17 [very boring] years,I would have served less time for
murder woldn't I?.Anyway I made my escape and worked as a care
worker at the lodge for 5 years, before getting married and emigrating
over here.
I still have family in Leyland [I see them entered in the forum] and
I will be seeing some of them when they visit us this year.
I look forward to keeping in touch with old school/work friends
through this forum. My maiden name was HENDY.
Thanks Martin for sorting out my login details.JDougan

| noel | Welcome Janet. There are I think one or two ex St. Mary's pupils on the site. My son is coming over to Australia in October , he had a year backpacking 2 years ago and vowed he'd go back he enjoyed it so much. He's only taking an extended holiday, around 4 months I think , he likes his home comforts and ma and pa too much. |
| William R | Welcome to the forum Janet, we`re a decent bunch, honestly. I`m one of the Leyland deserters, left there in 1952 to live in Chorley, then emigrated to Barnsley in 1959, still not naturallised. My next door neighbour has just come back from Australia, he went to Sidney area and toured with his "Mates", in his words it was "beach all day - booze all night" (is that what goes on?") His mobile phone bill was nearly £800 when he got back, oh dear! not to count his other little expenses. Australia must be a poorer place now they are all back in U.K. He was there five weeks for the G.P. Cheerio, Bill. |
| skitzy | Hi Janet & welcome
I only joined the forum this week & still trying to get the hang of how it all works.
Where are you in Qld[?] We live in Burpengary, north of Brisbane.

Hi Noel, thanks for the welcome,it's good to still be in touch with Leyland although I'm 20,000km away.Your son will have a
wonderful time over here [has he been before?] october is a perfect time too,as it's heating up nicely then.We live on the
sunshine coast close to Noosa [very popular with holiday makers].It would take alot to drag me away from here.

G'day Bill, glad to hear from you. How's the Barnsley weather treating you?,I'll bet your neighbour was glad of a rest when
he got home eh? I can promise you that we don't all have the lifestyle that your friend tells of [not in Queensland anyway]
maybe it's different in Sydney! mind you the beaches are rather tempting..We are almost into winter and the beaches are still well occupied as although it's cooler at night, the days are very warm.
I have family visiting us in October then again in December-I can see us having trouble getting them back on the plane home!!.
Janet. |
| Sandieh | G'day Janet from another ex-leylander in Perth WA[8D] |
| Hayleypink | hello janet! |
| William R | Hello Janet, Barnsley weather? At the moment 1325GMT Tuesday, we`re having heavy rain with some thunder. Other than that a bit of everything. I think we are getting more forum members from the southern hemisphere than ever, where have you all been hiding, on the beaches? Grand to hear from you all, Cheerio, Bill. |
| Hayleypink | its lovely and sunny here....looking over the embankment next to London Eye :-) |

Hi Janet, yes 2 years ago he spent 12 months backpacking, travelled all the way down the east coast, then North up to Ayres Rock then on up to Darwin and back to Sydney where he spent New years' eve under the Harbour Bridge watching the firework desplay while drinking VB. |
| Hayleypink | wowow!! i also am so envious of people who get to go travelling. must be a great eye opener. |
| Lady Griffin | I'm lonely here in New Zealand.Nice to have my Aussie neighbours though.

Awww {{{Linda}}}
Would you like me to put you in touch with my NZ cousins? I'm sure you'd get on with my cousin Susan. She's on S Island, but is online. |
| Lady Griffin | Gee folks.Just don't come all at once.
I can make a decent English breakfast. But there are some things I miss about home and would like to come back to.
Maybe one day.
I bet you are thinking she's mad.Especially Noel.
|
| JanetDougan | G'day Hayley, nice to hear from you. You're right about this travelling being reat fun
but it's also nice to remember where our original homes were.
How long have you been living in London for?.

Us leylanders sure are spread around the globe aren't we!
nice to know we are all in touch.

| Lady Griffin | Forgot to say bring your own bacon and sausages. They are terrible here.Had some scrumptious bacon in the Lake Destrict-not full of water.
LG |
| Lady Griffin | Also forgot to say I'm getting itchy feet again and that after a week back.
Where to next?
|
| Caroline | A belated WELCOME, Janet. I correspond with another old schoolfriend from Lostoock Hall, now living in Australia, and I'm trying to get her on the forum. She's in England working for a year but goes back soon .
Lady G, I know how you feel about England. I'm so glad we can now get British TV here , it's made a great difference to our sometimes isolated existence.
Favourite programme at the moment- ' Early Doors'. Anyone watch it ??? |
| LDunlop76 | Keep meaning to watch "Early Doors" but miss the opportunity! Never mind - it's BBC so sure to be repeated! |
| Martin | What is Early Doors? I must confess to watching virtually no television these days. It's a big difference from my youth, when I would be glued to the box seven days a week. |
| noel | You are still in your youth Martin. At least compared to some of us. In my very early youth, telly hadn't been invented. |
| Martin | In my youth Noel, Telly tubbies hadn't been invented! |
| Caroline | I think you'll find it HAD been invented, Noel, but that your parents hadn't yet bought one........!!
'Early Doors', sitcom set in a Northern pub. Favourite line so far ''He's so tight! He dropped sixpence once and it hit him on the back of the head .......'' |
