| Martin | Noel mentioned a fire at the BTR club. Here's a news article about it
quote: Damage to a Grade Two listed building devastated by a fierce blaze could total more than £800,000 it was revealed today.
Surveyors are calculating the damage to the former BTR social club in Stanifield Lane, Farington following the fire, which is believed to have been deliberately started.

| noel | Well there are a lot of skeptics Martin who are suggesting insurance scam, far be it for me to agree. But it was a grand building whilst under BTRs wing. |
| Thornley | Noel, did you ever go to the BTR club. We used to go about 25 years ago, they had artist[?] on most weekends. I don't think any ever broke into stardom that appeared there though! The walk down that drive way was always a little less scary after a few drinks[:D] Sad that it burnt down though. I was having a conversation with a work collegue (ex Leyland girl) a few weeks ago about all the clubs that used to be in Leyland, I don't think there are many left now.

| noel | I used to go every weekend , and come to think of it, every night, started when Percy was landlord , Whitbread Tankard was 1/10 a pint. I used to go out with £1 in my pocket have a few pints and still had enough for fish and chips on the way home. Mind you, home was a shoe box with 14 of us living in it.
I stopped going just after Jerry took over due to family arriving on the scene, probably about 30 years ago. |

That was way before my time Noel. I remember my mum taking us there when we were young. Was there a kind of nature reserve there? |
| noel | At the BTR Club? There was at Jerry's which is The Plough Inn near Worden Park, had hens and peacocks and Rabbits. AND MIDGES GALORE. |

I remember Jerrys, it's a a bit out of the way in the sticks. As far as I know, they still have a few birds there. |
| noel | A very nice one works behind the bar Martin on a Friday night. |
| noel | The latest is that the house is being refurbished. The gate has been removed from Centurion Way and gypsies are on the field. |
| dampslad | Thought i heard the boss of Lunar Caravans had bought it.
Does anybody know if it was built by one of the founders of Farington Mill, a Mr Bashall? We always called the copse in front of it Bashall's Wood when I was a child.
For that matter was the rather grander Farington Lodge the home of the other mill partner, Mr Boardman?
It belonged to Leyland Motors for years. Remember Prince Philip having lunch there when he visited the new test track at Spurrier Works and drove an Atlantean round it (the test track, not the lodge!) |

Malcom Campbell of Campbell's Caravans (not Lunar) bought the estate and sold the house to Rowland Homes for their new offices. They were replacing the roof when vandals set it on fire.
Farington House
This was originally owned by the Boardman family who, as joint owners with the Bashalls of Farington Mill, were the main employers in the area. While the wooded area was known as Bashalls Wood, due to the later intermarriage between the two families, the house was later brought by the Roberts family who owned the Wood-Milne Rubber Company, which was taken over by the B.T.R., the House then becoming the B.T.R. Social Club. (Exctracted from Peter Houghton's web site) |
